Katy joins Women’s March in Washington D.C. on January 21st

Artists Cher, Katy Perry, Zendaya and Angelique Kidjo are among the growing lineup of female celebrities participating in the Women’s March on Washington. More than 100,000 are expected to attend the march, taking place in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 21 – the first day of Donald Trump’s new presidential administration.

Actress America Ferrera serves as chair of the Artist Table for the march. Additional announced participants include Scarlett Johansson, Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler, Debra Messing, Frances McDormand and Julianne Moore.

“Since the election, so many fear that their voices will go unheard,” Ferrera stated in a release announcing the march’s lineup. “As artists, women and, most importantly, dedicated Americans, it is critical that we stand together in solidarity for the protection, dignity and rights of our communities. Immigrant rights, worker rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, racial justice and environmental rights are not special interests, they affect us all.”

In the same release, Carmen Perez, national co-chair of the Women’s March on Washington, said, “Women don’t live single-issue lives, and we are thrilled to be joined by women who understand and reflect the intersecting issues for which we stand. All women deserve freedom and equity.”

More than 150 independently organized solidarity marches are also being planned in all 50 states and in 20 countries around the world. Handler, for example, will lead a march down Main Street in Park City, Utah, followed by a rally.
